Editing and proofreading

Get your manuscript ready for readers

You've written the book. The next step is a careful read from someone who knows how to make it better without making it theirs. Our editors work line by line, explain the changes they suggest, and hand you back a manuscript you can publish with confidence. Real human editing only! No AI used at any point during the process.

No payment today. We'll give you a quote after reading your manuscript, and nothing starts until you approve it.

What we offer

Three levels of editing

Not sure which one your book needs? Mention that in the form, and we'll tell you after we've read a sample.

Developmental editing

We look at the whole book: plot, pacing, character, argument, and structure. You get detailed notes throughout the manuscript plus clear direction for your revisions, and we stay available for questions and spot checks once you've made them.

Best for a complete draft you know isn't finished yet.

Quoted per project

Copy editing

Line-level refinement of phrasing, dialogue, grammar, organization, consistency, and clarity, down to the smallest proofreading details. Comments throughout explain recurring issues so the next book comes easier.

Best for a finished manuscript with no major revisions planned.

Quoted per project

Proofreading

The final pass before publication. Every page is checked for spelling, punctuation, missed or repeated words, and formatting inconsistencies, so readers move through your book without a hitch.

Best for a manuscript that has already been edited.

Turnaround

Most manuscripts come back within 3 weeks of the start date. Length, the state of the draft, and our current schedule all affect that, so we confirm your completion date in writing before any work begins.

How fees work

Fees depend on word count, the service you need, and the genre. We give you one flat figure for the whole job after reading the manuscript, with no deposit required to get that quote.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us about your book

Share a few basics through the form below, including your estimated word count.

    We read and quote

We ask for the manuscript, confirm which service fits, and send you a fixed price and a completion date.

  3. 3

    Your editor starts

Real people, not AI. You'll know who is reading your book and can write to them directly.

  4. 4

    You get it back

Tracked changes, margin comments, and a short summary letter. Questions afterwards are included.

Questions

Before you write in

Anything not covered here, just ask. We answer every message ourselves.

Do real people do the editing? +

Yes. Every edit is done by a professional editor working in your genre. We don't run manuscripts through AI tools, and we'll tell you who your editor is before work starts.

What file format should I send? +

A Word document (.doc or .docx) works best, since we edit with tracked changes. If your manuscript lives somewhere else, that's ok. We can work with any file type.

Is there a minimum length? +

We usually take manuscripts from around 20,000 words and up. Shorter work, such as novellas, short story collections, and children's books are welcome too, just ask.

American or British English? +

Either. Tell us which one you want, and we'll apply it consistently, including spelling, punctuation, and dialogue styling.

Can you do the cover as well? +

Covers are what we're known for. Mention it in your message, and we'll quote the editing, and the cover together.

Does a quote cost anything? +

No. Ask as many questions as you like before deciding. There's nothing to pay until you've seen the price and agreed to it.
